ArcGIS for Google Transit

Maybe you saw that on Google Lat Long that Green Bay Metro Transit route, schedule and stop information is now integrated into Google Map. Or did you use it, or find out another way?

Want to find out how this was done? Come to this year's EWUG conference.
The Brown County Planning Commission developed the Google Transit Feeds (GTF) based on Google’s specifications by incorporating tables and geospatial data within its existing transportation geodatabase schema. The GTF was developed using GPS, ArcMap, ArcSDE, SQL Server, DTS, and Google Transit open source software.
Even if you don't deal with transit applications, this still may be in your future. It may be likely that you one day may be creating geodatabase and geoprocessing models that feed into consumer mapping websites.

EWUG 2008 Conference

Be sure to register now for the 2008 EWUG Conference.
Only $75 for 1 and 1/2 days of sessions on October 29th and 30th.

This year the conference is at the Paper Valley Hotel in wonderful downtown Appleton.

Go here for the link to online registration and presentation abstracts.

If you've never been to EWUG before, attendance is usually between 200 and 250 people. It's a relaxed conference that is very valuable for networking with other users. Because it's a user conference, we tend to be a little more technical side of things. People come from a wide range of backgrounds, public and private sector. From what others tell us, its a very well run and informative user conference at a very affordable price. We've be doing it for 9 years now.

Race, Potholes and GIS

More GIS-related news keeps coming out of Milwaukee...

Over the past week or so, their has been controversy regarding whether or not there is a timeliness bias on fixing potholes in Milwaukee's minority communities. The issue was brought to light by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Most likely ESRI is the 'mapping software' that is used for the analysis. For a description of the analysis look here and here.
